About the Route

The 8 K Route:

The 8 km route is an out-and-back course that takes you to the beautiful Kakabeka Falls. You will turn right off the start from the Royal Canadian Legion to run west along the Trans-Canada Highway to the Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park.

You will go back the same way, but take a short detour down Hydro Station Road, looping back to the highway. Then run through Kakabeka Village and take the Trans-Canada Highway east back to the Royal Canadian Legion.

The Half Marathon Route:

The half marathon route (13.11 miles) will take you left off the start from the Royal Canadian Legion on the Trans-Canada Highway. You will turn right onto highway 588 towards the Stanley Hotel. You will then turn right onto Harstone Drive, following this to Luckens Road. Be on the look out for this gravel road, as you don’t want to miss this turn off. It can be a bit hard to find.

Once on Luckens, go up and down the many “rolling hills” to the top. Here you will turn into the beautiful Kakabeka Provincial Park. Follow the park road to the Poplar Point Trail. Run this 4 km trail, exiting the campground at the top of the hill. Run down the hill, then loop around the magnificent Kakabeka Falls, coming back out onto the Trans-Canada Highway.

Next, you will then run through the township of Kakabeka, where local folk will cheer you on toward the finish at the Royal Canadian Legion.

The Full Marathon Route:

The 2024 Full Marathon Route initially follows the same course that the half marathon runners take until Pole Line Road is reached after running through Kakabeka Village. Here the marathoners will go left onto Pole Line Road, taking it all the way to just past Point De Meuron Road.

Runners will then run back and turn right onto Point De Meuron Road. This road meets up with Oliver Road as runners run towards the Murillo Fairgrounds.

Just after the fairgrounds and public library, runners will turn left onto Baxendale Road, then left again onto McLean Ave. They will then loop around onto Laurence Dr. and Mcgillivary Ave. At the end of Mcgillivary, runners will turn left onto Oliver Road.

Marathoners will stay on Oliver Road until it reaches the Trans-Canada Highway. Turning left on the highway, runners will run east towards the Royal Canadian Legion and the finish line.
